There has been talk of the Miami Dolphins possibly using the franchise tag on Olivier Vernon, but the team is also reportedly open to trading the young pass-rusher.

The Dolphins have indicated at the NFL Scouting Combine that they may franchise Vernon and then trade him, according to Jordan Raanan NJ.com.

General manager Chris Grier said Wednesday that the Dolphins are "trying to get something done" with Vernon, however, they're also in talks with fellow defensive end Cameron Wake and have limited cap space to work with.

As Raanan notes, trading a franchised player wouldn't be easy either. The franchise tag for defensive ends is expected to be upwards of $15 million for 2016.

Vernon started all 16 games for the Dolphins last season, recording a team-high 7.5 sacks and 61 tackles.
