As Philadelphia district attorney Seth Williams continues his investigation into an alleged nightclub brawl involving Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy and three off-duty police officers, another detail has emerged about who may have started the fight.

A police report from the night in question made it seem as though former Pitt wide receiver Tamarcus Porter had initiated the fight after one of the officers, Roland Butler, walked away with a bottle of a champagne. However, a person close to McCoy told a different story to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News.

According to that source, Butler grabbed a bottle of champagne off of McCoy's table thinking it was ordered for his group, and a fight ensued between him and Porter. After seeing Butler with his hands around Porter's neck, McCoy threw a punch at the officer that missed, the source told Carucci.

McCoy was pulled away before security guards broke up the fight, and the guards suggested he leave the club "to avoid this whole public exposure," according to the source.

The police report stated that Butler was knocked to the ground and "punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times." Butler was later hospitalized, receiving treatment for a laceration to his right eye, a broken nose, broken ribs, and sprained thumb.

"I guess (McCoy) would have to make that case at trial," John McNesby, head of the Philadelphia chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, told ESPN's John Barr. "Doesn't really matter how it started. The end result was serious injuries."

Fortunato Perri, an attorney for one of the other officers, made a similar statement to Barr, saying: "The evidence clearly shows that the off-duty officers were the victims of a violent assault and suffered serious permanent injuries."

When asked what those permanent injuries were, Perri said his client suffered scarring and is being treated by a neurologist.
