Cardinals GM: It's 'scary' what David Johnson is capable of

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim can't stop gushing over third-round pick David Johnson.

Keim told the team's official website recently that Johnson is just "scratching the surface" and it's "scary" to think of what he's capable of.

"Just going back and looking at some of things David did on our tape just recently, from a skill set standpoint, it's scary," Keim said, via NFL Media's Chris Wesseling. "At 6-1, 226 pounds, a guy who can bend and make lateral cuts the way he does and have the ball skills and the matchup possibilities out of the backfield, he's truly a three-down back that's got the size and the strength to punish in the run game and he's got the skill and the athleticism in the passing game, which is scary."

Opportunity came knocking for Johnson in late November when Chris Johnson went down with a knee injury, and he took full advantage, leading the NFL with 658 yards from scrimmage during the last month of the season.

While Keim acknowledges it will be difficult for David to match Chris' 2,000-yard rushing campaign from 2009, he believes the former Northern Iowa star could come close to that mark in yards from scrimmage in his second year.

"The way he catches the ball out of the backfield and the weapon he is as a receiver, I think he could end up being one of the better all-around backs in the NFL when you look at being a complete player," Keim explained. "A guy that's not subbed for in third-down situations, a guy that can play every snap and can be such a weapon in every phase of the game."
