Raiders announce 1-year lease extension to remain in Oakland for 2016

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders announced at a press conference Thursday that they've reached a one-year lease extension to play the 2016 season at O.co Coliseum.

The extension includes options to extend the lease in 2017 and 2018, which the organization can exercise should it not opt for relocation during that span.

Raiders officials will continue negotiating with the city of Oakland either way, however, as finding a viable long-term stadium option remains the top priority.

If the Chargers secure a new stadium deal in San Diego, the Raiders will have the opportunity to work out an agreement to join the Rams in Los Angeles.

The Raiders were pre-approved for such a move as part of the league's resolution to the L.A. sweepstakes last month, but the Chargers were awarded a one-year window during which they can negotiate first.

Other options on the table for the Raiders outside of the Bay Area appear to include San Diego, San Antonio, and Las Vegas.
