Texans owner Bob McNair: 'We need to have reliable play at QB'

The Houston Texans know exactly what their top priority will be heading into the upcoming offseason.

Owner Bob McNair told reporters following a press conference Wednesday, restating a sentiment he also expressed last month, that the club needs to find a way to improve under center.

"We need to have reliable play at quarterback," McNair said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "We don't need a superstar there, but it needs to be reliable play that won't take anything away from us. "

Brian Hoyer held a starting role for the majority of the 2015 season, for the most part doing well to manage the offense and minimize any sort of mistakes.

His disastrous postseason showing against the Kansas City Chiefs, however, made it abundantly clear that an upgrade would be necessary for the Texans to take the next step and emerge as a Super Bowl contender.

Barring a free-agent addition in March, all eyes will be on the Texans in forecasting where some of the top quarterback prospects will end up on draft day.

Those currently thought to be in the mix as potential first-round selections include Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch, and Carson Wentz.

Penn State signal caller Christian Hackenberg could also be of particular interest to Houston somewhere in the middle rounds given his history with head coach Bill O'Brien.
