Mario Williams 'prepared for anything' ahead of expected release from Bills

Mario Williams has something to prove in 2016.

The veteran defensive end, who the Buffalo Bills are reportedly planning to release in the coming weeks, has no doubt that he's poised for a bounce-back year.

"I'm prepared for anything because I know I'm going to prove a point and that is not even a question in my mind," Williams recently told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

"At the end of the day, if I'm not there, I'll show you that I'm better than what I've been before. Like, that's just a chip on my shoulder regardless of whether I am there or not, because given the opportunity I’ll get back to what I was."

Williams was openly critical of head coach Rex Ryan's defensive scheme throughout the 2015 season, taking particular issue with the way in which he was misused on the edge.

After recording a career-high 14.5 sacks under Jim Schwartz's 4-3 scheme in 2014, the 31-year-old managed just five sacks as part of Ryan's 3-4 front.

Cutting Williams would save the Bills nearly $13 million against the salary cap. As a result, it only appears to be a matter of time before he has the opportunity to hit the open market and seek out a better fit for abilities as a pass rusher.
