The New Orleans Saints released guard Jahri Evans on Monday, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Evans was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and helped the Saints capture their lone Super Bowl championship in 2009.

The Saints, one of the most cap-strapped teams in the NFL, will save $1.1 million against the salary cap as a result.

New Orleans faced a Wednesday deadline to make a decision on Evans, or else the team would have owed him $3 million guaranteed for the 2016 season.

Evans signed a seven-year, $56.7-million contract with the Saints in May 2010.

The Saints also released linebackers David Hawthorne and Ramon Humber, a source told Yates.
