Eagles release Riley Cooper

The Philadelphia Eagles released wide receiver Riley Cooper on Monday, officially parting ways with the veteran receiver just one day after the 2015 season officially came to an end.

Though he'd emerged as a reliable playmaker over the two years prior, Coopers' production took a substantial hit in 2015.

He managed only 21 receptions for 327 yards and two touchdowns despite appearing in each of the Eagles' 16 regular-season games.

The relative lack of impact all but sealed his fate when considering the financial ramifications of keeping him around, as the move to release Cooper saves the Eagles $2.9 million against the salary cap.

Nelson Agholor will now be expected to take on a more significant role opposite Jordan Matthews heading into the second season of his career, and the Eagles can be expected to target depth for the position later this offseason.
