'Knock off the nonsense': Marshall offers advice to Beckham Jr.

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall is advising Odell Beckham Jr. to not let his emotions overshadow his performance.

Beckham was suspended one game for his actions in Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers, including delivering a helmet-to-helmet hit on cornerback Josh Norman.

Marshall recognizes Beckham's special talent, but is concerned a lack of self-control could prevent the Giants star from reaching his full potential.

"Continue to be who you are, just knock off the nonsense of overstepping that line," Marshall said Wednesday, according to Jordan Raanan of NJ Advance Media. "It's a thin line between being competitive and being too much. He did that against the Panthers. He can't do that.

"He has way too much going for himself. He's one of the top three faces of the NFL and with that comes a lot of responsibility."

Beckham's rise to stardom has been fast, and with good reason. He has the most receiving yards through the first two years of a player's career in NFL history (2,755), despite missing the first four games of his rookie year.

Marshall implored Beckham to keep everything going that's brought him this unprecedented level of success, but to never repeat his actions against Carolina.

"Everything from the hair, the personality, the fight - keep that!" Marshall said. "But don't ever let it spill over to what happened in the Panthers game."

Added Marshall, "You learn that. It's tough. You're asking 21- or 22-year-old boys to be men. They have a lot of money, fame, access to whatever they want. So, yeah, ego and your attitude comes into play."
