Packers' Cobb believes mic could have caused punctured lung in playoffs

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered a punctured lung during his team's playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals and has an interesting theory as to why it happened.

Cobb appeared on "The Jim Rome Show" on Wednesday and revealed that he believes the microphone he was wearing could have been the reason he sustained the injury.

"The battery pack for the mic was on my shoulder pads. I landed flush on my back during the catch, and I punctured my lung," Cobb told Rome. "There's no way to prove that, but it's kind of crazy that I punctured a lung without fracturing my rib."

Cobb sustained the punctured lung on a spectacular, falling catch that was negated by a penalty, and said it was a scary feeling as he returned to the huddle following the play.

"I made the catch. I got up and felt fine," Cobb said. "I was walking back to the huddle, and I just noticed that it got harder for me to breathe, and then it felt like I was going to throw up. It felt like I was choking on something, so I went to throw up and then I started spitting up blood and it was kind of a crazy moment. Then I went back and got the chest X-ray. I didn't break a rib, I didn't fracture a rib, which is really abnormal to puncture a lung without that, but I was mic'd up for the game."

Despite suffering an injury that required Cobb spend a night in hospital, the 25-year-old admitted he tried hard to be allowed back into the game.

"Once we got the scan I was like I didn't break or fracture a rib, so that’s really weird. I should be fine. Can I go back in the game?" Cobb said of his conversation with team trainers. "They were like, 'Are you crazy? You are spitting up blood,' I'm like nah, this is the playoffs. Nothing is broken. I'm good, let me go."
