Report: Source disputes rumor Kaepernick wants to play for Jets

There's no truth to a report that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants to play for the New York Jets, a source told Dom Cosentino of NJ.com.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News dropped a bombshell Tuesday with a report that Kaepernick not only wants out of San Francisco, but would prefer to go to the Jets.

"No," a person familiar with the situation told NJ.com. "Nothing. No idea where it came from. Random, strange article."

Kaepernick is under contract with the 49ers and presumably has little power over where he plays football next season. The 49ers haven't committed to Kaepernick as their starter (new head coach Chip Kelly says player evaluations are ongoing) but appear highly unlikely to simply hand Kaepernick his walking papers.

It's not clear what connection Kaepernick would have to the Jets. The team plays in a major media market and has an offense loaded with weapons, but Kaepernick has no specific ties to any of the Jets' coaches. The team has also stated its desire for 2015 starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to return.
