The Oakland Raiders will likely remain in the Bay Area for at least one more season.

Owner Mark Davis said Monday that the Raiders are in the process of negotiating a short-term extension to play the upcoming year at O.co Coliseum.

"As of today, right now, we are in the process of trying to negotiate a one-year extension at the Oakland Coliseum to play the 2016 season there," Davis told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.

"After we get that done, we'll sit down and try to figure out where the future of the Raiders lies."

Should the Raiders be unable to work out a long-term solution with the city of Oakland thereafter, Davis is interested in relocating to either Los Angeles or San Diego.

Moving to either market will have to wait until the Chargers settle their stadium situation, however, as San Diego's one-year negotiating window to join the Rams in L.A. gives the Chargers first choice when it comes to both markets.

Davis visited Las Vegas last week to meet with local officials about a proposed stadium project, but told Kawakami he's uncertain whether the environment is suitable for the NFL yet.

Davis expressed appreciation for Raiders fans' patience during an already extensive process that still doesn't appear to have an end in sight.

"The Raider Nation is the greatest group of fans there are in the world," Davis said. "They've been so patient and so forgiving through all of this that it's unbelievable to me … I didn't say it very artfully afterwards. But we're trying to get this done for all of us, all part of the Raider Nation, and we will."
