Report: Redskins sign Ziggy Hood to 1-year deal

The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent defensive end Ziggy Hood to a one-year deal, reports Grant Paulsen of Fox 5, citing a source.

Hood, a first-round pick in the 2009 draft, played the first five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in every possible game over that span.

He moved on to join the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, but was released from injured reserve partway through the 2015 campaign. Though he quickly caught on with the Chicago Bears, he'd finish the year having suited up for just two games.

The 28-year-old will enter Redskins training camp this summer with another opportunity to earn a roster spot and a possible rotational role on the defensive front.

Washington enters the offseason with some depth concerns at the position, largely due to the potential retirement of 10-year veteran Jason Hatcher.
