Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron knows his new position coach well and he believes Al Golden - who watched his Miami team get lit up by the former North Carolina standout - should know him, too.

In 2013, Ebron went off for 199 yards receiving and a touchdown in a 27-23 loss to Golden's Hurricanes. All told, Ebron caught 16 passes for 293 yards over three games while the two were both members of the ACC.

Golden's task of helping Ebron reach his potential will be the incoming coach's first order of business, after the 2014, 10th overall pick has struggled with consistency during his first two pro seasons.

Ebron may want to focus less on his coach and more on his routine, as future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez - one of the game's greatest tight ends - believes a change in workout may be in order for the underachieving pass catcher.

"From a talent perspective, he could be one of the best tight ends in the league," Gonzalez said Monday at a Super Bowl media event. "I don't know who's teaching him out there. I don't know what his coach is telling him, but obviously, I would think that he needs to turn his routine around."
