San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos made his intentions clear on Friday: he wants his team to stay put and is committed to making that a reality.

Spanos announced that the Chargers will hold off on their potential move to Los Angeles for one year and will use the 2016 season to attempt to negotiate a deal with San Diego, something he believes can happen if both parties work together.

"I met briefly with the mayor, Kelvin Faulconer, today and the head of the county board of supervisors, Ron Roberts," Spanos said, according to the Chargers' official site. "We had a very pleasant conversation. The purpose of the meeting was to let them know that our family was committed to staying another year to give this thing 100 percent effort. We all looked each other in the eye, and we all agreed that if we can get united on this thing, there is no reason we can't get this done."

Spanos expressed regret over the way the last year had played out, with Chargers fans forced to endure a season of uncertainty and animosity between the city and its franchise. However, he emphasized that he truly wants to remain in San Diego.

"The message is we want to be here in San Diego," Spanos said. "We're committed this year, and we are going to give it 100 percent effort to get a new stadium done here."

Spanos understands the fans have lost faith in his organization, but he hopes they'll come around when they see both parties attempting to work out a deal.

"I think that's going to be through time, obviously," he said. "I think with the mayor, the city and the county, the Chargers and the business community all working together, it's going to be a process, but I think the fans will see that we're working together. That’s the most important thing. When they see that, I think that will help build the trust."
