Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is dead set on playing in the Super Bowl despite being only days removed from surgery to repair a broken bone in his forearm.

Davis told reporters Thursday that he had "a plate and probably around 11 or 12 screws" surgically inserted into his right arm on Monday morning after getting hurt in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

Despite the serious procedure, Davis has only a thin bandage, and not a cast, on his arm:

"I fully expect to play," Davis reiterated, the same message he's had since after Sunday's game.

There's no significant medical risk to Davis if he plays. It's primarily a matter of pain tolerance.

Considering Davis has overcome three torn ACLs in his career, it's hard to imagine the pain of a broken arm will keep him off the field for his first Super Bowl.
