Thompson will undergo surgery on the torn labrum in his left shoulder Wednesday, The Washington Times reports.

Analysis:

When healthy, Thompson showed off his chops as both a runner and pass-catcher this season, but a crowded backfield contained him to just 35 rushes and 35 receptions. Further hindering his overall output were injuries to his neck and shoulder that forced three DNPs over the course of the campaign, the latter of which is being remedied Wednesday. While his offseason will include rehabilitation, Washington brass must make a decision on the exclusive rights free agent as well as unrestricted free agent Alfred Morris, which will ultimately impact Thompson's potential workload in 2016.
