Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played through an AC joint sprain and torn ligaments in his throwing shoulder in last Sunday's divisional-round loss to the Denver Broncos.

Roethlisberger didn't appear limited by the injury as he threw for 339 yards in the defeat and he revealed Tuesday on his weekly radio show on KDKA-FM that the injury won't require surgery in the offseason.

"I guess the ligaments will, you know, scar up and heal on their own," said Roethlisberger, according to Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "Obviously, we'll be dealing with a little bit of pain and some limited movement here for a little bit. But, supposedly, will heal on its own."

The 33-year-old suffered the injury during Pittsburgh's wild-card victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He left the game for several series before returning for the last drive.

"The only thing he told me that possibly could need surgery is, down the road, sometime going in and just kind of cleaning out the arthritis and where that scarring is and things like that, so I don't foresee any surgeries or anything on the shoulder any time soon," said Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger dismissed Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib's accusation that he faked the shoulder injury, calling it "unbelievable."

"It makes no sense," Roethlisberger said, "but it is what it is."
