Panthers' Ron Rivera captures 2nd Coach of the Year
After leading the Carolina Panthers to 15 wins during the regular season and a berth in the Super Bowl, Ron Rivera earned Coach of the Year honors on Saturday night.
It's the second time Rivera has won the award in the last three years. He was also named Coach of the Year in 2013.
Rivera won with 36.5 votes from The Associated Press, topping Andy Reid (six votes), Bill O'Brien and Mike Zimmer (two votes each), Gary Kubiak (1.5 votes), as well as Bruce Arians and Bill Belichick (one vote each).
In five seasons as Panthers head coach, Rivera has amassed a 50-34-1 record.
Under Rivera, the Panthers have won three straight NFC South titles and are one game away from capturing the franchise's first Super Bowl victory.
On the eve of Super Bowl 50, Rivera chose not to attend the award show, instead accepting his honor in a video.
