Rams, Chargers reach agreement on potential L.A. stadium partnership

The Chargers are staying in San Diego for the 2016 season, but team president Dean Spanos confirmed that an agreement is in place to join the Rams in Los Angeles.

Spanos said in a statement that he wants his team to remain in its current home, but that the Chargers have reached a deal with the Rams to join them in Inglewood should they be unable to reach an agreement with San Diego.

This course of action will allow the Chargers to use the entire 2016 season to negotiate a long-term deal with San Diego, while presumably using their agreement with the Rams as leverage.

The Chargers have an exclusive one-year option to become the second team in L.A., which gives them until Jan. 15, 2017 to decide.

There are no details on the agreement, so it's unclear whether the Chargers have agreed to become tenants in the Rams' home that's set to be completed by 2019, or partners, should they exercise their option.

The Chargers reportedly submitted plans that would allow them to build interim headquarters in Orange County should they decide to move to L.A.
