Peterson takes blame for Vikings' loss to Seahawks

The Minnesota Vikings' top player is taking responsibility for the club's crushing wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon.

Though Blair Walsh's missed 27-yard field-goal attempt ultimately proved to be the deciding play, Adrian Peterson is certain that the Vikings would have emerged with a win were it not for his fourth-quarter fumble.

"Without a doubt," Peterson said, according to Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I definitely take the blame, without a doubt. We almost had it. Just too many missed opportunities."

The star running back's untimely turnover came after the Seahawks finally managed to get on the board with a touchdown. The fumble put Seattle in position for the go-ahead field goal.

Despite leading the league with an impressive 1,485 rushing yards during the season, Peterson indicated that he felt as though he could have done more to help his team this year.

"It wasn't a success," he said. "It wasn't good enough. I will do better next year."

Peterson will enter the 10th year of his career sitting 17th on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 11,675 rushing yards. Another season anywhere near as productive as his 2015 campaign would both push him into the top 10 and almost certainly have a growing Vikings team right back in playoff contention.
