Weddle ready to move on from Chargers, supports decision to retain McCoy

Eric Weddle is happy to see Mike McCoy returning to the San Diego Chargers, even though he likely won't be joining him.

The veteran safety said Monday that the Chargers made the right decision by retaining McCoy, who just wrapped up his third season as the team's head coach.

As for his own future, Weddle said he'll be looking for the "right fit" in free agency and wants a chance to win a title somewhere. He sounded resigned to the fact that he's played his last game as a Charger.

"I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me. I had a great run," he told reporters, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Weddle was placed on injured reserve prior to the Chargers' season finale, a move that came just hours after news that he was fined $10,000 for watching his daughter dance during a halftime show.

His agent, David Canter of DEC Management, also accused the Chargers of waiting until after they placed Weddle on IR to announce that injured players couldn't travel with the team to Denver for the season finale.

Weddle said Monday he has no doubt he could have played through his groin injury and that he probably won't get an explanation from the team on why the past couple of weeks went the way they did "because I probably won't ever speak to them again."

In 137 career games with the Chargers, Weddle recorded 850 tackles, 19 interceptions, 6.5 sacks, and 71 passes defensed.
