Chargers place Weddle, 3 others on IR

Eric Weddle has likely played his last game with the San Diego Chargers.

The team placed the veteran safety on injured reserve with a groin injury Monday.

The five-time All-Pro will be a free agent in the offseason and is widely expected to move on from the Chargers.

The 30-year-old held out hope of a long-term contract extension last spring, but the Chargers didn't budge. He lingered on the field for hours last week after the Chargers' final home game, likely indicating he knows he won't be back.

Seemingly adding to the issues between player and team, the Chargers appear unwilling to let Weddle travel to the club's final regular-season game in Denver.

Weddle's agent, David Canter, tweeted Monday that the Chargers aren't allowing injured players to make the trip because the plane is too small, saying the team didn't announce the decision until after the safety was placed on injured reserve.

In corresponding roster moves, the Chargers also placed tight end Ladarius Green (ankle), safety Darrell Stuckey (knee), and nose tackle Sean Lissemore (shoulder) on IR and promoted tight end Sean McGrath and safety Matt Daniels to the active roster.
