Eagles' Mathews still in concussion protocol

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews missed practice Thursday and remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Mathews' chances of playing Sunday against the New England Patriots appear to be quite slim. It would be the third straight missed game for the sixth-year runner.

Assuming Mathews is sidelined, DeMarco Murray and Darren Sproles will handle most of the work in the Eagles' backfield. Kenjon Barner could also see a few carries.
