Jerry Jones: Cowboys need young QB to groom behind Romo

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still believes Tony Romo has another four or five years left in him, but he's also starting to think about the future of his quarterback position.

Jones said Tuesday during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that the Cowboys need a young quarterback to groom behind Romo, and graded the team a "D or F" when it comes to developing their backup position.

It didn't take long for the conversation to shift to Johnny Manziel, whom Jones had interest in during the 2014 draft.

Asked why the Cowboys didn't draft Manziel, Jones replied, "At that particular time, I felt like Romo had more time."

Jones also noted that he was "a vote of one in the room" when it came to wanting to draft Manziel.

As for Romo, Jones is staunch in his belief that the 35-year-old has several good years left as a starter.

"Four to five years," Jones said. "This is not a damn debate here."
