Chip Kelly denies talking to USC about head-coaching job

A considerable amount of doubt has surfaced regarding Chip Kelly's future in Philadelphia, but the head coach at least appears focused on the task at hand.

Speaking with reporters Monday, Kelly denied a recent report suggesting he'd met with USC officials late last week to discuss the school's head-coaching vacancy.

Kelly explained that he wasn't even in Philadelphia on Friday, where the report indicated the meeting took place, insisting he remains committed to the Eagles and hasn't been involved in talks with any college programs.

"Hopefully the college rumors will now stop," he said, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports.

The rumors pertaining to the USC position will certainly conclude, as the school named Clay Helton its permanent head coach Monday, but questions about Kelly's job status will persist as long as the Eagles continue to struggle.

With LSU no longer a viable option after confirmation that Les Miles will return in 2016, perhaps Kelly's best option would be to remain in the NFL in the event the Eagles opt to part ways.

One such opening that would almost certainly be attractive to the former Oregon head coach is in Tennessee.

The Titans, who drafted Oregon product Marcus Mariota No. 2 overall earlier this year, could reportedly have interest in Kelly should he become available at season's end.
