Report: Panthers work out Cortland Finnegan

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Carolina Panthers front office chose not to take a well-deserved day off after Thursday's impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Members of the team's staff worked out a group of players including free-agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan on Friday, according to Bill Voth of BlackAndBlueReview.com.

Finnegan, 31, last appeared in an NFL game a year ago with the Miami Dolphins and announced his retirement in the spring.

Finnegan would likely man the slot for the Panthers. With Charles Tillman sitting out the past two games with a knee injury, the Panthers have been forced to move Bene Benwikere to the outside and have struggled to replace his production in the slot.
