In an unusual move, the New England Patriots released a statement on tight end Rob Gronkowski's condition, in conjunction with his family.

As of now, Gronkowski is considered "week to week."

The statement lays out no return timetable, confirming the injury to be a sprained knee, and calls any previously reported timeline "speculative."

"During Sunday night’s game, Rob Gronkowski sustained a bone bruise/sprain of his right knee," the statement reads. "His status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis and listed accordingly on the practice participation and injury reports. There is no timetable for his readiness to return, which will be determined in the days or hours prior to the appropriate game. Any timetable reported prior to that final determination would be speculative."

Previous reports have indicated the All-Pro tight end would miss anywhere from one-to-multiple weeks. With the Patriots looking like the No. 1 seed in the AFC, utilizing Gronkowski before the playoffs may not be necessary, anyway.

Why the Gronkowski family is involved in releasing the statement is unknown.
