Cardinals sign Red Bryant, place LaMarr Woodley on IR

The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent defensive lineman Red Bryant on Thursday, adding some much-needed depth and competition up front.

Bryant spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the division-rival Seattle Seahawks before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2014 campaign.

He remained a free agent this past offseason after being released in March, temporarily catching on with the Buffalo Bills for some preseason work before again hitting the open market.

With both Cory Redding and Frostee Rucker already ruled out for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, Bryant could quickly be thrust into a significant role on the Cardinals' defensive front.

Linebacker LaMarr Woodley, who emerged from last week's game with a chest issue, was placed on season-ending injured reserve in a corresponding roster move.

Woodley started in seven of Arizona's first 10 regular-season games, recording 10 tackles and one sack over that span.
