Terrell Owens wants to work out with Patriots

The undefeated New England Patriots are the talk of the NFL, and 41-year-old Terrell Owens is hoping to join the defending champions.

Owens was released by the Seattle Seahawks in August 2012, and the odds of him cracking the Patriots' roster appear highly implausible at best.

The five-time All-Pro was named as one of 25 semifinalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday, but still wants his comeback bid to be taken seriously.

"Would I be open to it? Considering an organization like the Patriots? Yes," Owens said to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. "Knowing Tom (Brady) and understanding the structure of what Bill Belichick, how he runs his ship, I have no problem with that. A lot of people will obviously speculate into what I may bring from a negative standpoint to that organization."

Although the Patriots are without Julian Edelman indefinitely due to a broken foot, the defending champions boast enough depth to go on without Owens. Regardless, Owens views himself as an ideal fit.

“I don’t know what their needs would be or their considerations would be by bringing me in, but I definitely think an organization like that, it would be an ideal situation for myself to be part of," Owens said.

"If they want to work me out to see what I can do if I’m catching or running or cutting, I have no problem with that."

Owens also said he didn't have a problem with his Hall of Fame eligibility being delayed by a potential return to the NFL.

"No, that doesn't even bother me," Owens said. “Me going into the Hall of Fame has never really been a big deal, never really been high on my list.

"You have people in the Hall of Fame weighing in on whether I should be or shouldn't be. My stats kind of speak for itself. People want to factor in how I interacted or how well I got along with the media, and my character has been in question."
