Tests have confirmed quarterback Tony Romo has a hairline fracture in his left clavicle, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Friday.

Romo will not require surgery, but will be forced to the sideline for the rest of the season, Jones announced.

Romo was injured after being tackled by Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis in the third quarter of Thursday's game and immediately clutched at his left shoulder, as he did after first breaking his clavicle in Week 2.

Romo missed seven games with that injury, all losses for the Cowboys, before returning in Week 11.

Though Romo's clavicle had healed to the point where he was medically cleared to play, the fracture carries a heightened risk of re-injury for as much as six months.

Romo is expected to make a full recovery before the start of training camp.
