Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch underwent surgery to repair an abdomen injury Wednesday morning, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed.

Lynch's timeline for a return had reportedly been set at a month, but Carroll indicated that there's hope he'll make a recovery in three-to-four weeks.

A four-week absence could conceivably see him get back on the field in time for a Week 16 matchup with the St. Louis Rams, while anything longer could have him targeting a return for the playoffs instead.

Either way, the five-time Pro Bowler is now facing a relatively lengthy absence.

Thomas Rawls, who ran for 209 yards and one touchdown in his fourth start of the season last week, will continue to work as the lead back with Lynch on the sidelienes.
