The NFL's return to the Los Angeles market may be delayed until 2017, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

The NFL hasn't had a team based in Los Angeles since 1994, but recent overtures by the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers made it seem inevitable at least one franchise would relocate for the start of the 2016 season.

Barring a breakthrough, a move may not happen for at least a full calendar year, according to Rapoport.

It's not clear what the specific impediments to relocation are. Any team relocating to Los Angeles will have to build a stadium and pay what is expected to be a hefty relocation fee.
