Ajayi, who has been on short-term IR after breaking a rib during the preseason, is set to practice this week, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis:

Ajayi is eligible to return to action as soon as Week 9 against the Bills, with the report noting that the Dolphins plan to evaluate the rookie back over the next two weeks before deciding whether to activate him for the contest. Assuming no further injuries in the Miami backfield in the meantime, Ajayi would be in line to join the Dolphins' backup RB mix (along with Jonas Gray and Damien Williams) behind starter Lamar Miller. For now, it appears as though Gray may have supplanted Williams as the teams No. 2 back, but once he's up to speed, Ajayi could potentially enter the conversation on that front.
