Jets' Marshall considered quitting football

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall is a major reason why his new club is off to a 3-1 start, but his future looked murky as recently as two years ago.

Marshall revealed that he didn't feel like playing football anymore after three hip surgeries hampered the five-time Pro Bowler.

"I had a moment a couple years ago, and it was because my body wasn't responding to the hip surgery I had," Marshall said in a preview for Tuesday's episode of Showtime's "Inside the NFL."

"I had three hip surgeries. And for me, everything's in my preparation, my workout. And I didn't have it in me to get up and work out."

Marshall was traded to the New York Jets on March 10, after spending the past three seasons with the Chicago Bears. In his first year with New York, Marshall's recorded 30 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns through four games.

At his nadir, Marshall's agent and former collegiate coaches visited him to help change his outlook.

"This was just two, three years ago," Marshall said. "Last year was probably when I finally got over it, when I finally started to do some of the things I felt like I was able to do in the past."

Marshall's decision to persevere is paying dividends - the 31-year-old is on pace for the best yardage and touchdown output of his career.
