Steelers activate Martavis Bryant to 53-man roster

Jason Bridge / USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially activated wide receiver Martavis Bryant to the 53-man roster Tuesday.

To make room for Bryant, the Steelers released safety Ross Ventrone.

Bryant served a four-game suspension, and his addition to the roster was a formality. However, he was held out of Monday's victory over the San Diego Chargers, the first game he was eligible to play in this season.

Reports surfaced Saturday that Bryant tweaked his knee during practice. Because Bryant had yet to be activated to the 53-man roster, the Steelers weren't required to list him on the injury report.

Bryant recorded 26 catches for 549 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games during his rookie campaign, establishing himself as an explosive downfield threat with the Steelers.

Paired with last season's leading receiver in Antonio Brown, the Steelers possess one of the NFL's best tandems, as Bryant's expected to be the team's second receiver.
