San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis will not play Sunday against the New York Giants due to a knee injury.

It's a bit of a surprise because Davis practiced all week and was thought to be on track to play. Davis may have suffered a setback on Friday but nothing has been reported.

In Davis' absence, the 49ers' trio of young tight ends will get lots of work, with Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek, and Blake Bell all expected to see the field.

Left tackle Joe Staley, who is also dealing with a knee injury, is listed as questionable after not practicing all week.

In addition to losing Davis, the 49ers may be without linebacker Ahmad Brooks who is doubtful.
