The Denver Broncos are set to release veteran fullback/tight end James Casey, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.

Casey joined the Broncos on a one-year deal during the offseason, seemingly giving the team a versatile contributor in the running and passing games, but he was unable to factor into the offense through the opening month.

While it wouldn't be a surprise to see him back in Denver at some point this season, Casey will now hit the free-agent market and be eligible to sign with another team.

His most productive season came with the Houston Texans in 2012, where he recorded 34 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns across 16 regular-season appearances.
