Texans name Hoyer starting QB for Week 6

The Houston Texans will turn to Brian Hoyer under center for next week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Bill O'Brien announced Friday.

Hoyer edged out Ryan Mallett for the lead job after a strong training camp and preseason, but the Texans opted for a quick change after the offense disappointed in a season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 29-year-old was highly effective in relief of a struggling Mallett on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts, doing more than enough to earn himself another chance in the starting role.

Hoyer has now completed 59-of-95 pass attempts on the season, throwing for 780 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Though O'Brien wouldn't commit to the veteran as his starter beyond Week 6, however.
