The Miami Dolphins have made the decision to fire defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.

Defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo will move into the role, the team announced.

The move comes days after the Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin and promoted tight ends coach Dan Campbell as his interim replacement.

Coyle's fate is no surprise, as several reports emerged suggesting the Dolphins contacted possible replacements since the weekend.

Indeed, the team spent the last few days planning to move on from Coyle, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Former NFL head coaches Jim Schwartz, Greg Schiano, and Mike Smith were all linked to the job, but it appears the Dolphins prefer (or are forced to) find their replacement in-house.

Prior to joining the Dolphins in 2012, Anarumo served as defensive backs coach at Purdue and Marshall.

Through four weeks of play, the Dolphins rank 30th in total defense, surrendering 399.5 yards per game on average.
