NFL owners approve Stan Kroenke's plan to transfer NBA, NHL teams to wife

Casey Sapio / USA TODAY Sports

The NFL's owners voted Wednesday to approve a cross-ownership plan that will see St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke transfer ownership of the NBA's Denver Nuggets and NHL's Colorado Avalanche to wife Ann Walton Kroenke, Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Kroenke's son, Josh, will run the two franchises.

The transfers are necessary if Kroenke's Rams are to relocate to Los Angeles, as the NFL doesn't allow its owners to own additional pro sports franchises in other markets.

Transferring ownership of the Nuggets and Avalanche won't guarantee Kroenke's Rams relocate to California, but it's a big hurdle cleared.
