Report: NFL owners will discuss reducing preseason by 1 game

NFL owners will discuss reducing the preseason when they meet Wednesday in New York, among other topics.

A proposal is on the table to shorten the preseason from four games to three, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

While the meeting's primary focus will be the proposed relocation of the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers to Los Angeles, a shortened preseason will be a topic of great interest.

With the NFL preaching a greater commitment to player safety, a reduced preseason could help reach that goal. Green Bay's Jordy Nelson and Carolina's Kelvin Benjamin both suffered season-ending injuries before the regular season officially opened, which may impact Wednesday's talks.
