The Dallas Cowboys have hired former defensive tackle Josh Brent to work in their scouting department.

Brent retired from football in May after playing in 46 games over four seasons with the Cowboys.

"Josh is doing things for us in the scouting department," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Thursday to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "It’s good to have him out here. We want him out here."

On Dec. 9, 2012, Brent was involved in a car crash that killed his teammate and friend Jerry Brown. Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter, spent five months in jail, and was sent to a drug treatment facility for 45 days. At the time of the incident, Brent was driving over 110 miles per hour, and failed a field sobriety test.

Brent was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2014 season under the NFL's personal conduct policy.
