Wife of Redskins GM apologizes for denigrating remarks about ESPN reporter

The wife of Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan apologized for incendiary comments made about ESPN reporter Dianna Marie Russini.

Jessica McCloughan implied in a tweet that Russini and her husband had an extra-marital affair that led to the reporter gaining information about the Redskins from the general manager.

The team initially stated that it was a fake account, before admitting the account belonged to Jessica McCloughan.

She apologized in a statement Wednesday.

I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account. The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN. I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behaviour has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base.

ESPN released a statement Wednesday in defense of Russini.

"Dianna is an excellent reporter who should never have to be subjected to such vulgar comments. We are obviously extremely disappointed by today's developments."
