San Diego Chargers players were visibly upset over the actions of Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark in a scrum that broke out during the second quarter of Saturday's game, claiming he attacked Philip Rivers.

One Chargers player told Tom Krasovic of U-T San Diego that Clark tried to punch Rivers after the quarterback was sacked by Seahawks defensive tackle Jordan Hill for a nine-yard loss.

Chargers left tackle King Dunlap pulled Clark out of the scrum, resulting in a 15-yard penalty. Dunlap said he didn't see what Clark did to provoke his teammates, he just wanted to make sure Rivers was OK.

"That guy was on top of Philip, and that's our quarterback," Dunlap said. "I protect the quarterback at all costs."

Asked about the incident after the game, Clark said Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman advised him not to get involved in those types of situations.

"Man this game, it's a lot of emotions is involved," he said, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. "I'm a real emotional player but there are ways you react and ways you don't react. You've got to be smart in this game. That was something Sherm was telling me afterwards, that whole thing, even though I didn't get called for anything, just to avoid situations like that."
