Jets' Leonard Williams to undergo MRI on injured knee; X-rays reportedly negative

New York Jets rookie defensive end Leonard Williams was forced from Saturday's preseason game against the New York Giants after injuring his knee in the first half.

Williams went to the locker room under his own power, but was walking with a visible limp alongside a member of the Jets' training staff.

X-rays on the knee were negative, and the Jets believe the injury is a bone bruise, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed after the game that an MRI has been scheduled for Sunday.

The Jets bolstered one of the league's most dominant defensive fronts by selecting Williams with the No. 6 overall pick in this year's draft, and the USC product is slated to play a significant role during Sheldon Richardson's four-game suspension at the start of the year.
