Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow is on track to make the team after impressing head coach Chip Kelly, barring a major blunder during the remainder of the preseason, Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports, citing a team source.

Kelly is said to be swayed by Tebow's running abilities, which make him a threat in short-yardage and two-point-conversion situations. Tebow may be utilized in relief of the oft-injured Sam Bradford in running packages.

Third-string quarterback Matt Barkley is available via trade, according to the team source, which would pave the way for Tebow to claim a roster spot.

The former Heisman winner has rushed for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.
