Steelers' James Harrison won't let sons accept participation trophies

Vincent Pugliese / US PRESSWIRE

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison isn't a fan of the "you tried your best and that's all that counts" mentality.

Harrison posted a rant of sorts on his Instagram account Saturday about how he won't allow his two sons to accept participation trophies.

"I'm not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I'm not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best," Harrison wrote.

Comments on the post are largely in support of Harrison, though a few people have noted that even young children are often aware of the pointlessness of participation trophies.
