Report: Patriots rework Rob Gronkowski's deal to spread out cap hit

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have reached a deal with tight end Rob Gronkowski to restructure his contract in order to spread out his cap hit, ESPN's Field Yates reports.

Gronkowski's $10-million option bonus due to be paid at the end of the 2015 season will be converted into two payments of $4 million and $6 million, respectively.

It's a minor accounting move that won't change Gronkowski's take-home pay, but will give the Patriots a little more financial flexibility.

Gronkowski declared earlier this year that he's yet to spend a single dollar he's earned from the Patriots and instead lives off his endorsement deals.
