Bills fullback wants LeSean McCoy to break rushing record

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills fullback Jerome Felton wants LeSean McCoy to accomplish what Adrian Peterson was just barely unable to do running behind Felton's lead blocks in 2012: break the all-time rushing record.

Peterson finished the season with 2,097 yards rushing, the second-highest total in league history.

Felton sees an even bigger number in McCoy's future.

"I want him to break records," Felton said, according to Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News. "I want him to get 2,000 yards. I want him to lead the league in rushing. Him and Adrian are cut from the same cloth. I would be very disappointed if he's not the leading rusher in the league next year, that's for sure."

Does McCoy, whose best rushing output was 1,607 yards in 2013, really have that kind of season in him?

"Why not?" Felton said. "He has the ability that it takes. For a runner to get 2,000 yards, you have to be able to score from anywhere on the field. That's my goal for him."

There's little doubt McCoy will get ample opportunity to chase the record. The Bills appear intent on building their offense around a ground-and-pound rushing attack.

With Felton as a fullback blocking in front of him, something McCoy has rarely enjoyed in his career, an NFL-best rushing total is realistic.

But 2,000 yards? Well, everything seems possible in July.
